Is Health Insurance On the Mind of Your College Student?
Posted by Author under Health Insurance, Personal Insurance
Sending your teenager off to college for the first time can be traumatic, to both the teen and the parent. Gathering all the items needed to live on their own can be time consuming and expensive, but don’t over look the critical items like student health insurance and other necessary insurance coverage.
While at home your teenager is probably covered under your health insurance and probably a home owner insurance policy as well. When they move out they take on other responsibilities in life, but it might be up to you as the parent to make sure your student is fully covered in the event of an emergency.
Know your policy information, research the emergency care facilities in the area of your teen’s college, find a local general doctor now so you will have all the needed paperwork and insurance information on file there.
Some schools offer on campus medical care, but your insurance may or may not pay for this, so find out in advance what you are responsible for financially. It might be just as convenient and economical to visit the general doctor as the school facility. Cheap term life insurance is also something you might want to consider buying before your teenager goes off to school.
